What text can be extracted

It extracts the document's real text, the kind you can select with the mouse: contracts, articles, invoices or reports generated from a word processor. The result is plain text, with no formatting, tables or images.

Reading order follows the PDF's own. In documents with several columns or complex tables the text can come out mixed up, so it's worth reviewing.

If the PDF is a scan

A scanned PDF contains photos of the pages, not text, so there is nothing to extract and the tool will tell you. Those cases need optical character recognition (OCR), which this tool doesn't do.

If you only need the images in a PDF, use Extract images from PDF; if you want each page as a picture, use PDF to JPG.
